BOMA Baltimore Members Make an Impact by Helping Others

The Community Service Committee wants to thank those of you who brought hats and mittens to our holiday party and who supported our super sports raffle fundraiser. We raised $3756, which was $1000 more than we raised last year!  The Hats and Mittens Drive netted 294 items, valued at $805. We beat last year’s item count by 1 item. The winter hats, mittens and scarves have been delivered to Sarah’s House and PACT.

PACT is affiliated with Kennedy Krieger and is Helping Children with Special Needs. Our donation went to the therapeutic nursery’s children and families.

SARAH’S HOUSE is a supportive housing program, offering emergency and transitional housing with an array of other services for homeless families in Anne Arundel County.

The staff at Sarah’s House sent BOMA Baltimore a lovely thank you note which read in part, “Your gifts helped to brighten our Christmas and warmed both hands and hearts.”

The BOMA Community Service Committee will be sharing more info about our collective 2013 charitable efforts at the February BOMA program.

Thank you, thank you, to all our members; we appreciate your support and wish you a Happy New Year 2014!

The 10th annual School Supply Drive was a great success! Through its on-going partnership the Charm City Concierge, BOMA Baltimore collected school supplies valuing over $7,500, $2,500 more than last year.  Thank you to the BOMA Baltimore membership for supporting this year’s school supplies collection efforts; our partner, Charm City Concierge; the chair of the school supply drive, Jon McIntosh from PMM Companies; and the co-chair Theresa Beckner from Platt Development Group

With your support, our successful 2012 drive benefited children in the following organizations:

*Baltimore SquashWise, a unique youth development program providing long-term academic and social support to public school students in Baltimore City through the game of squash.

*Sarah's House, a supportive housing program for homeless families near Fort Meade

*Woodhome Elementary/Middle School, Baltimore City elementary/middle school

*House of Ruth  helps women, children and families in greatest need and with very limited resources build safe, stable lives and achieve their highest potential

*Women’s Industrial Exchange, a non-profit that provides local people the opportunity to earn income by selling handmade items to the public.  Their charitable commitment extends to the community at large.

*The League for People with Disabilities, a pioneering agency committed to offering individuals disabilities the opportunities to gain independence.

BOMA Community Service Committee Makes a Splash at Baltimore City Pool

On June 15, the BOMA Baltimore Community Service Committee partnered with the Parks and Recreation Department of Baltimore City to restore the pool house and picnic tables at the community pool located in Druid Hill Park. Under the leadership and direction of Jay Huey of Meckley Services, Inc., more than 25 BOMA members painted walls and partitions, power washed the exterior façade and stained the picnic benches.  Volunteers were from some of the following BOMA Member companies: AlliedBarton Security Services; Bavar Properties Group; Cassidy Turley; Manekin, LLC; Meckley Services; Metropolitan Maintenance; PMM Companies; Team Cam; Sentral Building Services; and Valcourt Building Services.  Artist Judy Hillman also contributed her talent to the project by painting wall murals in the pool house.

A special thanks to Platt Development Group for proving breakfast, manager Omeca McLaughlin from Papa John’s Pizza at 33rd and Greenmount for providing lunch, and to Bavar Properties Group and Sentral Building Services LLC for providing snacks and beverages.

The City of Baltimore Department of Parks and Recreation truly appreciated the work that was accomplished and recognized those efforts by inviting representatives of the BOMA Community Service Committee Mike Fotiadis, Jay Huey and Erika Palmer to attend the opening ceremony for the City pools. At the opening ceremony, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings Blake acknowledged BOMA Baltimore for their community service work at the pool.
