On the Record: An Interview with BOMA Baltimore’s New Board President, Lynn L. Berger, RPA

Years in the industry: 19

Current position: For the past five years, I’ve been with Liberty Property Trust. I’m a senior property manager for the Maryland region.

Board involvement: I’ve been on the BOMA Baltimore Board since January 2006 and on the Legislative Committee since 1998.

Why BOMA Baltimore: Like all of us in the commercial real estate industry, we have demanding jobs and families; however, my involvement with BOMA Baltimore has given me great personal and professional satisfaction. It’s an organization that does a great job of identifying what its members need in a diversified industry. Legislation, building codes, energy initiatives, operating expenses, education, just to name a few. BOMA Baltimore is about “Building Success” and the organization delivers a competitive edge for its members.

I think we also provide great benefits for associate members. We encourage members to "buy BOMA Baltimore" when they’re looking for vendors and we offer lots of opportunities for vendors to meet members face-to-face.

We also have many ways to get involved that can fit busy schedules. There are several committees to serve on and the more our talented members contribute, the better our organization will be. I hope all of our members will think about joining a committee!

About BOMA Baltimore's new marketing campaign:
BOMA Baltimore also recognizes the need to reach out to the next generation of industry leaders. We have enhanced our website, which gives us much more of a presence online than we have ever had before and now can reach members through social networking tools like LinkedIn and Facebook.

LinkedIn lets us all share our professional expertise, ask each other questions and communicate with each other when we’re not at a BOMA Baltimore meeting.

Facebook puts a more "human" face on the organization. We hope members will post their photos of our events and community outreach programs and show that we also have a lot of fun together.

What would you like that "next generation" to know about the field of property management:
This is a great industry. There are lots of different aspects to it. It’s rewarding, it pays well and it’s secure. Even during these tough times, vacant buildings still need good managers.

BOMA Baltimore will support up and coming real estate professionals in their careers and in being future leaders, and as always, BOMA Baltimore will remain an organization that supports and educates its members (and associate members) at every stage of their careers. It is a pleasure to work so many talented people with diverse expertise throughout the BOMA Baltimore organization.

What it's like to be BOMA Baltimore’s new board president:
It is a privilege to be selected by your peers to assist such a great team. And BOMA Baltimore’s Board is a team. That’s our approach.

Throughout my career, I have truly benefitted from my BOMA membership and I’m eager to assist and guide this organization to "Building Success."
