About the Program:

Mr. Melissaratos will discuss the following:

  •        The current economic environment and short term outlook both US and Maryland.
  •        Risks that can slow or reverse the recent economic growth
  •        The effects on the above on Commercial real estate
  •        How Amazon HQ2 could impact Maryland/Baltimore

The program will also include our annual election of officers.

About our Speaker:

Aris Melissaratos is the founder of The Aris Institute and currently serves as the Dean of Stevenson University’s Brown School of Business and Leadership. He also founded Armel Scientifics, LLC, which has invested in over 40 start-up companies, in advanced technology and life sciences.

Before joining Stevenson University, between 2007 and 2014, Aris served as Senior Advisor for Enterprise Development to the President of Johns Hopkins University. He also served as Secretary of Business and Economic Development (DBED) for the State of Maryland from 2003 to 2007, under Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr. Prior to DBED, Aris joined Boston-based Thermo Electron Corporation as its Corporate VP of Research and Development, and as President and CEO of its Thermo Coleman Corporation subsidiary. Aris began his career at Westinghouse Electric Corporation, where he worked for 32 years, retiring as CTO and VP of Science and Technology, responsible for research and development. Earlier in his career at Westinghouse, he was COO of the company’s Defense Electronics Group, responsible for $3.2 billion dollars in sales.

Aris co-authored with N.J. Slabbert, the book, Innovation: The Key to Prosperity. He earned a B.E.S. degree from Johns Hopkins University in Electrical Engineering and a M.S. degree from The George Washington University in Engineering Management. In addition, he has completed the Harvard Business School Program for Management Development.
